01Living in Newcastle

The city centre is Newcastle's living room: apartments above Hunter Street, harbourside dining at Honeysuckle, and the light rail running end to end.

The city centre is Newcastle's living room: apartments above Hunter Street, harbourside dining at Honeysuckle, and the light rail running end to end. Old and new sit side by side here, with heritage buildings, converted warehouses and new apartments, and you can walk from the harbour to the beach in the time it takes to finish a coffee.

Bolton and King Streets have some of the city's best cafés, and the pubs range from the Great Northern on Scott Street to Queens Wharf Brewery on the water. Civic Park, the Civic Theatre and, just across Laman Street in Cooks Hill, the newly expanded Newcastle Art Gallery make up the city's cultural heart. Six light rail stops link Newcastle Interchange with Newcastle Beach, trains leave from the Interchange, and the ferry crosses to Stockton from Queens Wharf. Newcastle East Public School and Newcastle Grammar are close by. Home here usually means an apartment, a converted warehouse or a heritage building.
