Newcastle East

Newcastle East sits at the mouth of the Hunter River, where the city began. Fort Scratchley, Newcastle Beach and the Newcastle Ocean Baths are all here, with historic terraces and the big green Foreshore Park in between. Nobbys Beach and the breakwall walk to Nobbys Head are just next door. It was once a place of heavy industry and railway yards, and is now known for Foreshore Park and its historic terraces.

Mornings mean a swim at the ocean baths or the canoe pool, then coffee at Estabar on Shortland Esplanade, East End Hub on King Street, or Moor on Hunter Street. For a drink, The Grain Store on Scott Street has craft beer on tap and The Falcon is around the corner. This is a walking suburb, and the light rail ends at Newcastle Beach. Newcastle East Public School is right here. Homes are mostly historic terraces, a short stroll from the sand.
